Elegantly Explore, The Ingenious, Morphology of Life
What comes to mind when you think of life? What symbols, sounds and shapes come up? What associations do you have? Do you go down the technical biological explanations of life or the mysterious spiritual exploration of life? Whichever angle you approach life from, whether it’s an organism giving birth, a tropical forest signing or a school of fish dancing. We can all agree that the beauty of life is something we all want to nurture, be part of and see evolve. So why don’t we? Well some of you reading this might say “I already do”, while some of you might say “it seems impossible to both live & nurture future life in the 21st century”. With this in mind I thought it would be worth exploring life in its broadest sense and ways for us to further amplify it in our personal and collective lives.
As a starting point it might be wise to for us to pause, take notice and elegantly explore what are the qualities that give birth to life. What are the qualities present in this moment? As I write this and you glance at these words, can you feel a sense of awareness, a sense of curiosity, a certain sense of evolving possibility with every phrase that unfolds. Gently hold on to this subtle feeling, I believe it will serve us well as a foundation on our exploratory journey of life.
With this sense of presence, I invite you to contemplate on the ingenious pattern of life. From the circularity of a seed giving birth to a tree that then produces even more seeds or a person giving birth to a person that has the capacity to give birth and so on. This life pattern is not only circular but it is regenerative, positively compounding on itself. In addition to this auto poetic pattern of individual life forms thriving, life forms also exhibit a mutually beneficial pattern of adaptive harmonious collaboration with surrounding life forms further nurturing the whole web of life on a broader scale. Similar to a how a tropical rainforest’s ecosystem works.
Taking these circular, adaptive and harmonious patterns of life into consideration, we can use the morphology of life as an orientating basis for what we choose to embody, create and share. For how we build spaces, create frameworks and ultimately shape systems that continue to nurture life on earth, while adapting over time like an autopoiesis life form.
